Where is peace on earth? you ask
and I say it is present

the way silence is present
beneath the din of everything;

it arrives without fanfare
like snow that falls while you sleep;

it bears no brand or moniker,
but appears where it is welcome,

and sometimes where it is not.
Or did you mean to ask,

Why is there so much unrest?
and I say remember

that we are formed
from the dust of fallen stars.
