I’m gonna drink a lot of coffee when I get out of bed
because I’m ravenous of memories
– you know what I speak of, when there was nowhere else to go
your daughters were sleeping in the room across the hall
I was the shape of a bird in your bird feeder
you took me out to the prairie, you shook the grass from your dress,
I forget what we said to each other in the car
I was often off in my head in those days
you may be dead by now but I love the names given to the creeks around here
“Elders Branch Creek”,
“Wooden Bridge Creek”, and my favorite,
“Fortune Teller Creek” – I mean what’s not to love?
