at the beginning
it was mostly words
with which our minds
spoke to one another,
till some empty well
of curiosity had filled;
a wall of comfort
had been built,
word by word, but now,
after all these years
a mere glance, a quiet smile,
a subtle frown, or even
a shared silence suffices
