the neighbors
are getting their car fixed
right outside my deck

I can’t think from the noise
and the people

I get sucked into the repair

does he want the car back bad?
I used to
when we owned clunkers getting fixed
is the mechanic gonna be able to fix it?
how much will it cost?

then I am startled

I don’t care about any of this

but somehow I started to

I embodied concerns that were not my own
and wondered if I should
I was annoyed that I did as I don’t want to be thinking about any of this

I guess I didn’t have much choice
if I was going to go outside
it was going to sound like a garage

if you’re out there take a number

whether you have
a car
that needs
to be
fixed or not
