I try to keep an appearance
of a well-manicured lawn
but my moles keep showing up
hungry, silently heaving sod.
And I gotta lot of them
so I never leave the yard
stomping the heaves
so they don’t kill the grass.
My wife thinks I’m crazy
and wrecking our relationship.
I go see a mole specialist,
that helps.
They teach me how to
catch and release.
That’s what I do now
releasing them in the wooded park
just a short walk down the road.
Sometimes I go to visit too.
I still get moles
but it’s manageable.
I can leave the yard
and just check for activity when back.
My wife doesn’t talk about the
relationship thing anymore either.
