Complete silence in the full, morning subway car
as most, looking down, locked in, scroll, scroll,
stop, scroll, scroll, stop, two-thumb type, scroll,
stop, scroll, scroll, stop, scroll;

not unlike an arctic fox, fixated on a point in the snow,
digging frantically, stopping to listen, look,
dig some more, then stop; except the fox just might
end up with a sustenance of some kind, at some point.
