like a 20-foot rogue wave wall
appearing suddenly out of
a placid, gray-teal ocean

giving no time for fear
to be digested, nor for
comprehension to do its part,

heaving us up into the unknown
then dropping silently back down

which then just as quickly
moves on with its deadly intent
in tow, leaving us relieved yet
not unscathed;

that cancer scare
exactly two years ago.
