on getting accepted by a mag

I used to tell people
hey, I got published
and they would always ask
did you get paid?
invariably the answer was no
so now I just keep it to myself
I go out on the deck
with a cigarette and an energy drink
smoke and sip
my own congratulations
of artistic merit
without the money
which feels a little like failure
