little blue flowers
that remind me to be myself
Aunt Becky in the grass
in the dirt
the years of not seeing her
death before death
I remember her voice like singing
she could get a ladybug to fly
she could get a dog to zoom happily
and she would smile
and she’d look with concentrated eyebrows
at my weirdness and be amused
Danny Do! she’d say
and the last card I got from her
and the note I sent back
God took the stars by the armful
and carried them away when she left us
Aunt Becky in her house
what did she do?
something lost to the secret of the wind
a widow reunited now
reunited with so much
but not me
but I see her everywhere though
her essence
a pleasing aroma for the earth
that she loved and she loved
and she loved
laughing aunt Becky
snorting through her nose
I made her laugh!
I will still make her laugh
and we’ll walk and talk
and when I forget her
I will see the little
blue flowers whispering of me
me and Aunt Becky
