it was that high school
was a thousand different kinds of cruel
this one got caught jerking off
in the school bathroom
that one fucked a goat
it was a small town surrounded by corn fields
and someone was always fucking a goat
she was a whore
only because she wouldn’t stroke your ego,
much less anything else
meanwhile the rich kids
pranced around in pink polo shirts, collars up
cuffs of their pants folded over and rolled up
to showcase the pair of expensive penny loafers
no one questioned the quarterback, the basketball star
but the kids with glasses,
the kids with messy hair,
there was a target on their backs
high school was a teenage warzone
the classrooms were scattered with casualties
and like a real war
with real casualties
no one knew what they were fighting for
