Trisomy 21 Poet Speaks His Mind*

Once I was a dashing romantic lover
and dated all the girls on the Playboy covers.

Once I was a fantastic super hero
like Thor or Ironman or the amazing Zorro.

Once I was a fabulous fancy dancer
and did a waltz with Ginger Rodgers.

Once I was a handsome movie actor
and got myself the golden Oscar.

Once I was a great passionate poet
and soon became a Nobel Laureate

Once I was all these things, a happy hunky Drew Barrymore man
and oh, speak’n of that, you should know, I still think I am.

Wrote this during a texting poetry battle with my Downs Syndrome nephew who himself is a poet that has written over 5000 poems. A link to a feature on him is below. I wrote it trying to emulate his style, way of thinking and very healthy sense of self-esteem.
