Pouring beans onto a plate I stare into the emptied pan
I wash up
forget to eat
thinking of the pelican at the sea life sanctuary
its yawn is a drama with an anti-climax
marbles for eyes in which a feast is contemplated
last week’s plane crash
its fuselage tumbling out of the sky
replays on screens
one voice monologues in my head describing
whatever the hell is going on
while other voices talk across each other
or tell one another off
my thoughts sounding like an unruly classroom
I freefall
vision fogs
my neighbour’s baby wails
triggering my flight or fight response
it is evening
time to go out
to loosen myself from my moorings
and chase lengthening shadows
dogs and people walk about on stilts of stretched out strands of gloaming
glass beads for eyes in which is contemplated
a changing world
and the people being born into it
