Melismatics

Melismatics

Every evening I enjoy the non-verbal
sounds of the boy next door
as he chases up and down
the same route making a cleared path
in his grass

utters melismatic sounds as if
a black door monolith has appeared
in his garden and he contemplates
it with the repetition of his voice
and movement from the same point
to the same point again and again
and I am eleven years old mesmerised
sat in a cinema watching
as a bone becomes a spaceship.
